The Details tab is missing For many years, (anything older than Windows XP SP2) this vital information was hidden away, and disabled by default.

I have an old Advent laptop which I use in my job for programming and diagnosing faults on one particular line of old production machinary. What happened is the hard drive failed in the laptop last week, completely dead and I havent been able to recover anything from it. Virtio Windows 2000 Drivers For ProgrammingIv installed a new replacement hard drive and reinstalled Windows 2000 professional, installed service pack 4 and installed the software and drivers for programming the machines. Im struggling with some of the laptop drivers, I dont know the model of the laptop as the information sticker underneath the laptop has worn away and cant be read. Virtio Windows 2000 Zip Driver UpdaterI have tried some programs for scanning and identifying drivers such as driver booster, driver identifier, winzip driver updater etc. The device manager for win2000 is very basic, unlike in Win XP, you can view the hardware and compatibility Ids in device manager and Google them. Does anyone have any suggestions I just need to find the hardware IDs so I know what drivers I need to download. I suspect its a Conexant HD Audio device, I have tried downloading and installing the software for it, the driver is recognised and installed but then Im presented with this message, then if I reboot il get BSOD with the same message. Then I have to go in via safe mode and remove the driver to get windows to boot again. Right click the device in Device Manager with the Yellow Exclamation mark, select Properties and under the Details tab select Hardware IDs ( in 2000 it could be named Device Instance ID) in the dropdown box. In that file you need the Vendor, Device, and Subsys numbers. So from the command prompt you will need to type the following to have a Device Manager that has the Details tab enabled. Do not download the installer, only the zip file with the driver. Open Device Manager (Control PanelSystemHardwareDevice Manager) 2. The hardware whose drivers are missing will appear as Unknown device, so its easier to locate the device. Right click on the unknown device and click on Properties. Under the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id from the drop down box. You should see a code similar to this PCIVEN 8086 DEV 27DC SUBSYS30868086 REV0141E46F438040F0 6. The portion of the code highlighted in RED is the Vendor ID and the portion highlighted in GREEN is the Device ID.
